Project 1: Environmental impact of anaesthetic agents

The project ran in Autumn 2021, and all five trusts across the region participated and provided data. Some of the key findings are shown below.

Centrally, the findings have been presented at the annual MacIntosh day (hosted by OxDAT and Oxford CPD). Locally, each trust has presented their key findings, and developed local action plans to reduce the impact. Examples include:

• Setting up a multidisciplinary Green Theatres Forum 

• Removing desflurane vapourisers from the backbar

• Auditing desflurane (to educate and identify usage)

• Investigation into nitrous oxide use and wastage
